Did you notice the lion's injured eye? I love this image, not because the lion is injured, but because of what his scar represents.
This King of the Jungle has been through something. He has been in many battles. Perhaps he was defending his family. Maybe he was resting and was attacked by an enemy. Irrespective of the reason, he remains determined. Determined to survive and rise up despite his past difficulties which resulted in permanent scars.
This reminds me of the first stanza of Maya Angelou's infamous poem entitled "Still I Rise":
"You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise."
May Angelou was a very talented woman. Many of us can relate to her eloquent words. I leave with you my personal mantra:
No matter how many times I fall, I WILL STILL RISE. Will you?
